Our Beliefs
God
-
We believe in the one God of the Bible (Acts 17:22-28; Romans 1:18-23).
-
He is the Creator of all things in six 24-hour days (Genesis 1). He holds all the creation together by the power of His might (Colossians 1:16-17).
-
The one divine nature exists within three persons; God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit (Matthew 3:13-17; 28:18-19). These Three are in perfect unity (John 17:21-22; 16:13-15)
-
God is all-powerful, all-knowing , and present in all places (Luke 1:37; Psalm 139:1-18).
-
God is eternal. He has no beginning and no end (1 Timothy 1:17; 6:13-16).
-
God is perfectly holy, righteous, loving, compassionate, merciful, and just.
Jesus Christ
-
Jesus is God in the same way that the Father and the Holy Spirit are God (John 1:1; Philippians 2:6; Matthew 28:18)
-
Jesus became man in order save mankind from their sins (John 1:29,36; Philippians 2:5-11; Romans 5:8-15; ).
-
Jesus lived a perfect sinless life in order to be a sacrifice without the blemish of sin (2 Corinthians 5:21; 1 Peter 2:21-24; Hebrews 9:13-14).
-
Jesus is the only means by which a person can be saved (John 14:6).
-
Jesus' teachings are the only truth that can enable salvation. His words will judge us on the final day (John 8:31-32; Hebrews 1:1-2; Matthew 24:35; John 12:48; Acts 4:12).
-
Jesus died on the cross for our sins and rose from the grave on the third day as the first of those who will rise on the last day to never die again (Matthew 26:26-29; Luke 23:33-46; Matthew 28:1-7; 1 Corinthians 15:20-23).
-
Jesus is now at the right hand of God reigning over His kingdom (Acts 2:33).
-
Jesus is our King (1 Timothy 1:17), High Priest (Hebrews 4:14-15), and Savior (Titus3:4-7).
The Bible
-
We believe that the Bible is completely word-for-word inspired by the Holy Spirit as He directed men to write (2 Peter 1:19-21; 2 Timothy 3:16-17).
-
The Bible was completed by God by the end of the first century. This completion brought spiritual gifts to an end (1 Corinthians 13:9-13; Jude 3).
-
The Bible is perfect and without error because it originated with and has been preserved by God.
-
The word of God alone is all that is needed for us to know and understand what we must do to be saved and to remain saved in Christ Jesus (2 Peter 1:3).
-
The word of God is the power of God to bring about salvation in any person's life (Romans 1:16).
Sin
-
Sin is the violation of God's law (1 John 3:4).
-
Man first sinned when Adam and Eve ate of the forbidden Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil (Genesis 3:1-19).
-
Sin separates a person from the Holy God of heaven. This separation is spiritual death (Isaiah 59:1-2; Ephesians 2:1-2).
-
All people who have reached an age in which they can discern right and wrong have sinned - except Jesus Christ (Romans 3:23; 2 Corinthians 5:21; 1 Peter 2:22; Hebrews 4:15).
-
God cannot and will not ignore sin (1 John 1:5).
-
The consequence of sin is death (Romans 6:23).
-
Jesus came to deliver us from the lostness that sin brings to a person's life (Luke 19:10; Acts 4:12).
The Church
-
Jesus built His singular church based upon the confession that He is the Christ the Son of the living God (Matthew 16:13-18).
-
Jesus purchased the one church with His blood on the cross (Acts 20:28).
-
The church is the kingdom of heaven and its King is Jesus. The parables of Jesus that described the church began with "the kingdom of heaven is like..." (Matthew 13:24-33; 13:44-48; 1 Timothy 6:15; Colossians 1:13-14).
-
Christ is the head of the church and it is subject to Him in all things (Ephesians 1:22-23).
-
The church is comprised of those saved and added to it by Jesus Christ (Acts 2:47; Ephesians 5:27).
-
The church began on the Day of Pentecost after Jesus' death, burial, and resurrection (Acts 2).
-
Each local congregation of the Lord's church functions autonomously from others. There are no New Testament examples of church bodies or organizations overseeing multiple local congregations.
-
The Lord's church functions only as Jesus Christ commanded, therefore there cannot be many different kinds (denominations) of churches - there is only one church which is established in the one truth from God in the Bible.
Judgment
-
Every person who has lived or is living will stand before Jesus Christ and be judged by the words that Jesus spoke (John 12:48; Hebrews 9:27).
-
Everything that we have done openly or in secret will be revealed before God in judgment (Ecclesiastes 12:13-14).
-
The time of this judgment is not known to any person and cannot be predicted by any person (Matthew 24:36-39; 2 Peter 3:10).
-
All who have died will be resurrected on the judgment day either to life eternal in heaven or to eternal condemnation and suffering in hell. Those living will be changed into the same form as those resurrected (1 Corinthians 15:51-52; John 5:25-29; Matthew 7:21-23; 25:31-46; 2 Corinthians 5:10).
-
Those who do not know God or obey the gospel of Jesus Christ will be eternally punished away from the presence of the Lord (2 Thessalonians 1:6-10).
-
Those who have been faithful to Jesus will join Him in the air on that final day and forever be with Him (1 Thessalonians 4:13-18).
-
The whole of the earth and all the creation will be destroyed on the day of judgment (2 Peter 3:10-12). It will be replaced with a new dwelling place of righteousness (2 Peter 3:13).
Faith
-
Faith is the foundation of belief in that which we have not seen (Hebrews 11:1; John 20:24-29).
-
Faith is a work that God requires of each of us in order to be saved (John 6:28-29; Hebrews 11:6).
-
True faith requires that we do what God calls for us to do "by faith" (Hebrews 11; James 2:14-26).
-
Faith is more than simply believing that God exists, it also believing what He says in His word (Hebrews 11:6).
-
Faith comes from studying God's word (the Bible) (Romans 1:17; 10:17).
Repentance
-
Repentance is a determination of the mind to change one's life in a new direction that follows God's will for their lives (Luke 15:17-19).
-
A person must repent in order to be saved (Acts 2:38).
-
God desires for all to come to repentance (2 Peter 3:9).
-
Faith in God and His word will cause a person to choose to obey Him in this life.
-
The decision to repent is seen in the changed actions from a person's decision (Luke 3:8, 10-14; Romans 12:2)
Confession
-
Confession is the public proclamation of the faith that we have in God within us (Matthew 10:32-33).
-
Confession is a clear and unashamed proclamation to all men that you are a disciple of Jesus (2 Corinthians 9:13; 1 Timothy 6:13; Romans 1:16).
-
Confession is necessary for one to be saved (Romans 10:9-10; Acts 8:36-37).
Baptism
-
Baptism is the means by which a person is born again (regenerated) by "water and the Spirit" into the family of God (John 3:3-7; Titus 3:5).
-
It is through baptism that a person receives the forgiveness (washed clean) of sins at the time of first obeying the gospel (Acts 2:38; Titus 3:5).
-
Baptism is immersion (a burial) in water. (Romans 6:4; Colossians 2:12).
-
Baptism is required to be saved (Acts 2:37-38; 1 Peter 3:21; Mark 16:16).
-
A person must properly understand (have faith in) what God is doing in baptism (Colossians 2:12).
Living Faithful
-
In order to remain save, one must live according to God's commandments (Matthew 7:21-23; John 8:31-32; 14:15; 1 John 1:5-7).
-
The opposite of believing in Jesus is not obeying Him (John 3:36).
-
Those who do not live faithfully by obeying the gospel of Jesus Christ will be punished. This includes those who at one time were disciples of Jesus but fell away from the saving grace given to them (2 Thessalonians 1:6-10; Matthew 7:21-23; Galatians 5:4; 2 Peter 2:20-22).
Worship
-
All worship is to be in "spirit and truth" (John 4:23-24). All worship to God is to be from the heart (spirit) of a person in the manner in which has been authorized in His truth.
-
The New Testament shows us that worship under apostolic teaching included the following outward actions which are to be done with from the heart:
-
The Lord's Supper/Communion - This is a memorial of our Lord's death upon the cross. We partake of the bread (memorial of His body) and the grape juice (memorial of His blood) to remember and proclaim His death. We do this every Sunday as taught in the New Testament (Matthew 26:26-29; 1 Corinthians 11:23-30; Acts 2:42; Acts 20:7).
-
Praying - All worship to God should include a time in which we approach His throne in prayer through Jesus Christ. In prayer, we praise God, give Him thanks for the vast blessing that He provides, and we bring Him our burdens and petitions. We have faith that He hears our prayers and always does what is best for each of us (Matthew 6:6-13; Acts 2:42; 1 Thessalonians 5:17-18; Ephesians 6:18; Colossians 4:2; 1 Timothy 2:8)
-
Teaching/Preaching - We believe that teaching God's word is essential for our faith (Romans 10:17). The apostles and teachers in the 1st century church were teaching when they came together to worship. Our teaching should only be that which was taught and given to us by Jesus in the New Testament (Hebrews 1:1-2; Acts 2:42; 20:7; 2 Timothy 3:16-17; 4:2)
-
Giving - We give in appreciation to God for all that He has given to us. Our giving is a true revelation of the thanksgiving in our hearts to God. We give every Sunday as taught in the New Testament (2 Corinthians 8:1-5; 9:6-8; 1 Corinthians 16:1-2; Acts 2:44-45; 4:34-37; Hebrews 13:16).
-
Singing - We sing with our voices only to give God praise and to teach with the words of the songs. Our singing is from the heart and is an offering of praise given from "the fruit of lips that give thanks" (Hebrews 13:15). The New Testament only authorizes the heart and lips to be used in our singing (Ephesians 5:19; Colossians 3:16). We believe that there is nothing more beautiful than the voices that God created singing praises to Him.
-
Marriage
-
Marriage was established by God on Day Six of Creation when He created a woman for man (Genesis 1:27; 2:18-24; Matthew 19:4-6).
-
True marriage only exists between a biological male and female (Genesis 1:27; Genesis 2:18-24).
- Marriage is a covenant between a man, woman, and God for life (Matthew 19:6).
- Divorce and subsequent remarriage is permitted by God for the sole reason of sexual unfaithfulness by one's spouse (Matthew 19:9).
- Marriage is a covenant that ends at the death of a spouse (Romans 7:2-3).
